Run 98. The shape of the CoronaVirus 19/4/2020.

As the CoronaVirus continues to impact everything, I decided to do a run based on the shape of the much viewed CoronaVirus molecule. Or at least I tried. For run 95 I intended to run to Lake Coonawarra but failed. This time I started the run at Barwon Heads International Airport. Seems to me that Barwon Heads Airport has as many international flights coming and going right now, so why not claim it in the name.

Easy start as mostly downhill all the way to the lake and then uphill as I completed the first of the spikes of the CoronaVirus shape. But the roads around Lake Coonawarra didn’t help create the shape and despite it being an excellent concept, execution fell a bit short. I persisted as best I could running more out and back “spikes” on what should have been a roundish core. A moment of panic when I returned to Barwon Airport and it was gone. Turns out I had the wrong corner (they all look a bit the same) but with the help of my iphone I realised the airport was at the next intersection – another 1km from where I was. Finally technology was on my side.

Ran a nice 1:45:55 but would have been happier with a slower run and a better shaped CoronaVirus.

My Three Learnings

  1. Running towards a lake is always downhill, away is uphill.

  2. Running to a course shape causes slowness checking directions.

  3. Finding your car is easier if you know where it is.
