Run 25 – Dude, where’s my Car. Tram Route 96. 27/07/2019
Back to running a tram route, but the logistics just get a bit more difficult. Drove towards the city looking for a car park near a tram 96 stop. Finally found a spot just off Canterbury Rd, that didn’t require coins, and ran to the tram stop just in time to catch the tram. Rode the tram to the end in Brunswick East and then set off to run back along the tram tracks.
Still struggling with a tiring body, I decided to run easy and pick up the pace as I approached traffic lights – pseudo interval training. Seems the 3 day taper from Wednesday was not helping me and legs felt heavy as I ran back down Bourke St in the CBD. I planned to go to the end of the tram route in Acland St and then back to my car. It was then I realised, I wasn’t actually sure where I had parked or which tram stop I had gone to.
Finished the tram route and headed back to Middle Park. Slowly worked my way through a search process to identify the area where my car was parked. Finally recognised a corner and then the tram stop and then my car – easy (or lucky).
Had started the day by only eating a single banana as I was testing the advantage of not starting the run with too much food in my stomach. Turns out that the food is the fuel and I think I ran out of fuel way to soon. The intention of this program was to make me faster and smarter – right now I was feeling slow, sore and stupid. But at least I found my car.
My Three Learnings
Remember where you park your car.
3 day breaks not quite right for a tired body.
A single banana for breakfast does not fuel a half marathon.
